Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English

Publisher: Pearson ESL
Number Of Pages: 487
Publication Date: 2002-12-10

ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780582237261

This book is a coursebook and a reference grammar for students and their teachers. Although it is based on the Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English (LGSWE), the Student Grammar is much more than just an abbreviated LGSWE. Rather, we have simplified and reorganized the content of the LGSWE, avoiding much technical detail while retaining the strengths of the larger book. For example, like the LGSWE, the Student Grammar contains over 3,000 authentic English examples, and contrasts the major patterns of use in spoken and written registers. However, we have simplified the presentation when possible; for example, we have tried hard to find new and simpler extracts from our corpus data, often replacing more complex examples in LGSWE.
Of the five authors of LGSWE, we three owe a debt of gratitude to our two other co-authors: Stig Johansson and Ed Finegan. We benefited from the work that Stig and Ed did on the LGSWE during our writing of the Student Grammar. We would also like to thank the students in English 528 at Northern Arizona University, who used a draft of the Student Grammar as their grammar textbook and provided numerous helpful comments and suggestions for revision.
To support the educational use of the Student Grammar, we have also written a Workbook, which can be used as a classroom textbook or for self-study by students. The Workbook provides exercises based on authentic English texts and sentences, linked directly to the Grammar Bites in the present book.

Portable WinRAR 3.80 Beta 5 | Size: 2.24 MB

WinRAR is a powerful archive manager. It can backup your data and reduce size of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files downloaded from Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format.

Features of WinRAR:
- Using WinRAR puts you ahead of the crowd when it comes to compression by consistently making smaller archives than the competition, saving disk space and transmission costs.
- WinRAR provides complete support for RAR and ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives.
- WinRAR offers a graphic interactive interface utilizing mouse and menus as well as the command line interface.
- WinRAR is easier to use than many other archivers with the inclusion of a special "Wizard" mode which allows instant access to the basic archiving functions through a simple question and answer procedure. This avoids confusion in the early stages of use.
- WinRAR offers you the benefit of industry strength archive encryption using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a key of 128 bits.
- WinRAR supports files and archives up to 8,589 billion gigabytes in size. The number of archived files is, for all practical purposes, unlimited.
- WinRAR offers the ability to create selfextracting and multivolume archives.
Recovery record and recovery volumes allow to reconstruct even physically damaged archives.
- WinRAR features are constantly being developed to keep WinRAR ahead of the pack.

Changes in Version 3.80 beta 5:
1. It is now possible to include quotation marks in command line parameters
of WinRAR GUI self-extracting modules. Use two consecutive quotation
marks if you need to do that.
2. WinRAR displays the total progress bar when extracting TAR archives.

Platform Interference in Wireless Systems: Models, Measurement, and Mitigation
by Kevin Slattery (Author), Harry Skinner

Description
A complete guide to identifying, diagnosing, and resolving signal conflicts and interference problems found in the same RF/wireless device!
Intra-system EMC problems are becoming increasingly common in mobile devices, ranging from notebook PCs to cell phones, with RF/wireless capbilities. These issues range from minor annoyances to serious glitches which impede the functioning of the device. This book gives a thourough review of electromagnetic theory (including Maxwell's equations), discusses possible sources and causes of intra-system interference, shows to use models and analysis to discover potential sources of intra-system EMC in a design, how to use appropriate tests and measurements to detect intra-system EMC problems, and finally extensively discusses measures to mitigate or totally eliminate intra-system EMC problems.

With more and more mobile devices incorporating wirless capability (often with multiple wireless systems, such as Bluetooth and WiFi), this book should be part of the reference shelf of every RF/wireless engineer and mobile device designer.
*Throughouly describes sources of intra-system interference in RF/wireless devices and how to minimize them for maximum device performance
*Gives proven techniques for interference mitigation, ranging from the simple (component placement and cable routing) to the advanced (such as the use of shielding and signal absorption materials)
*Discusses modeling and analysis methods to predict likely sources of intras-system EMC
*Explains test and measurement techniques to detect intra-system EMC problems.
